If you and your child are in Garmisch-Partenkirchen or nearby, it's safe to say that you love winter sports. And you should, because Garmisch is one of Germany's biggest ski resorts. And its Olympic ski stadium is one of the oldest, having opened for the 1936 Winter Olympics.
It is worth noting that for this event, two small German spa towns — Partenkirchen and Garmisch — were merged into one. They also built sports centres and hotels to accommodate Olympic guests and athletes.
But if you have children and are spending your winter holiday in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, why not take them to the ice rink where the skaters train? Winter sports and Garmisch are inextricably linked. It doesn't matter if you and your child can't find your feet on skates. You'll get the hang of it here.
The stadium has an equipment hire service, so if you feel light-headed, you can hire skates and all the equipment you need for skating. You can also try other ice sports such as Bavarian curling or classic curling. Why not give it a try?
The Alspitz Wellenbad Water Park is 300 meters away, which we recommend to visit with children.
As soon as it gets warmer in Garmisch and the ice in the stadium is no longer replenished, the huge square is filled with inline skaters. During one week in the summer, the whole area is dedicated to roller skating — an extreme sports competition is held here. In addition to the competitions and training sessions, the Olympic Ice Palace hosts gala concerts with guest stars on Sunday evenings.
You are in for a treat!
